Educational Resources Based on John Biggers' Houston Murals

This website is the work of art educators from the University of Houston working in collaboration with Dr. Sarah Trotty and Dr. Alvia Wardlaw from Texas Southern University. It has been developed after an intensive period of time looking at Dr. Biggers' local murals and thinking about what others might want know about his work and legacy.

We have developed this site with a wide audience in mind: students, teachers, artists, and the interested public.  Our hope is to share Dr. Biggers' work and ideas with as many people as possible so that they too may be significantly moved by an understanding of this man's work.

On each section of this website, we invite your dialogue (discussion forums) about the materials and the ideas they communicate.   We firmly believe that educational materials should not be viewed as seamless authoritative information   Rather, we desire dialogue about the ideas to further all of our understanding of Dr. Biggers' work, and thus our hope is that this website will be in constant evolution because of our discussions and shared thoughts. We believe this dialogue is the purpose of education.
